Engelhard Prospector's

I just bought 102 Engelhard Prospector's 1985 and 1984 and i compared them to som of my other Engelhard Prospector's and the backs are differnt.

Does it make any differnce (value wise) if they have the flying eagle or the Engelhard sign??

:9536: No worries mate...

Any Prospector is as good as it gets...

Value wise... buyers seem to want the older years...

I'll take em anyway I can get em....I've never heard of anyone being picky about the design.

Also...they don't make them anymore so hide and hold..there will be no questions asked if you ever decide to cash out.

I can't imagine why. They're valued bacause of their halmark, not the design. But I do like the eagle backs better.:rose:

I just didnt know if the eagles were rarer so therfor held some nusemastic value or not.

Dont worry im hoarding them :)

I forget, but I believe they changed in '84. So you'll see '84's with both the big E and eagle.

What MT said. No worries, you are good to go with both versions.

Yes, the 84's had a mid-year change from the Big "E" to the Eagle.

Yeah lhs, that was back when they actually played basketball.

We had Kareem for awhile, before he went to LA and started stacking up trophies with Magic.

Ah . . . the Bucks!

I haven't watched a game since Bird, Parrish, McHale, and Johnson got done.

Dennis Johnson.

Yep oxy, you nailed it,

He had the sweetest sky hook I ever saw.

Smooooooth.

I'm with you, the battles of Magic and Bird were some of the best ever. I still remember Havilchek? as a 6th taking us down in 7, or McHale as the one of the best 6ths ever.

I quit when Jordan left. He was another must see in the finals.

What a franchise.

Let's just say that I followed the green in my fanatical years all the way from Alaska to Maine (and back!).

BTW, I DO love my Prospectors!

From one Boston fan to another; with a franchise 17 game losing streak, now would not be a good time to go back to watching the Celtics.

OK I had to chime in here since the Celtics are being discussed.

Yes, the 80's were the pinnacle of basketball. The '86 Celtics team was about as close to basketball perfection as I've ever seen.

As far as their current plight- just a bump in the road. This team is loaded with young talent. With a little more seasoning and the addition of another stud after this coming draft, the C's will be well positioned to become contenders yet again. Trust me on this one.:bull-smile:

I lived in Long Beach when those Championships were piling up for LA. Kareem, Magic, AC, Worthy. Great Team. I'm not much of a basketball fan either, but got caught up in it during the run.

The Pistons were good then too.

Oh, yeah. I have some with the Eagles, but no big E's.

I haven't seen all the Prospectors ever minted. Are the ones at the top of the page Engelhard rounds or another brand. I can't make out Engelhard anywhere on the coin. Anyone else make a round with a picture of an old prospector with the words silver of America inscribed on the coin?

Please don't leave out the doctor when talking of late '70's basketball. I can still see his floating double pump behind the backboard reverse layup in the one all star game. Erving was one of only a couple guys who could take off at the top of the key and still bring it dunking home. Sixers were an ok team too. :) McGinnis, Cheeks, Bibby, Bobby Jones, Caldwell Jones??? I guess they needed a big name center.

Hi Lancers,

In your picture, I'd say that only the bottom two rows and the leftmost three in the row above them are Engelhard Prospectors. The rightmost two in that row and the leftmost three in the top row are not Engelhard Prospectors. I've seen a round like those non-Engelhards before... says Silver Of America three times around the rim, with the old miner in the center (looks similar to the Prospector miner but not the same design), and the backside has an eagle and says Finest Purity Silver, One Troy Ounce .999. I don't know who makes that type of round, but it's not Engelhard.

Those didn't come with your batch of Prospectors claiming to be Prospectors, did they?:call:

Didn't buy them. It is a pic on Ebay. I think its still there. Ebay search Engelhard rounds. They should come up.

The net is a wild place. So I do a search for DD on the net and come up with this? Cartel trying to hold Gold in check here might be losing the battle.

How could I forget the record holder of broken backboards. My great mistake. And a few years later Malone was the central space taker upper.
